No Wimpy Christians Allowed
Jesus Christ instructs us to pray for our enemies, to forgive them.
However, we need also to denounce any disrespect aimed at our God. Jesus, in no way, was tolerant of disrespect towards his Father. Jesus had harsh words for the Sadducees and Pharisees who did not honor God or his commandments. He labelled them “Vipers”, the seed of their father, the Devil. Their arrogance was toxic, and Jesus exposed that:
Matthew 23:25 KJV
Woe unto you, scribes and pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
Christ dealt with the Pharisees and Sadducees as little as possible; he did not seek out their company. He matter-of-factly told them that publicans and harlots would be in heaven before them…harsh words to the ears of the elite.
Jesus also was angered by merchants selling their wares at the temple. He was not tolerant of their careless attitude towards his Father:
Matthew 21:13 KJV
And said unto them, It is written, my house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.
Jesus flipped their tables to prove a point.
Where, in modern day, is this indignation regarding society’s careless treatment of our Lord. A large percentage of today’s religious leaders are focused on maintaining the status quo. They are not interested in “rocking the boat”. Their congregations are pacified by ear-tickling sermons.
As we follow Christ, it is our duty to expose any disrespect regarding our faith. Mirroring society’s apathy will ultimately lead to our ruin. We need to firmly align ourselves with Christ’s position. There is no reason to tolerate inappropriate words or behaviors aimed at our Heavenly Father.
Speak up Christians…The world is listening.
